Spanish Immersion Program for Educators
DATES: Trip 1: June 7- June 15
Trip 2: June 22- June 30
TOTAL COST: $1700
- The cost of the program includes all meals, lodging, in-country transportation, activities, and classes that are listed below, however it DOES NOT include airfare.
- There is a $100 application fee, which will go toward the total cost of your trip when you are accepted into the program.
- All remaining fees must be paid in full by 3 weeks prior to the trip date — don’t worry, you’ll get a friendly reminder.
- Participants have the option to earn CEUs from California State University Monterey Bay for an additional cost. Please see below for instructions on how to register to earn CEUs.
BOOST YOUR SPANISH WHILE EXPLORING THE YUCATÁN
Are you ready to immerse yourself in Mexican culture and the Spanish language? Spend an unforgettable 9 days in Mérida, Mexico with One World Trek. You’ll take Spanish classes at the world-renowned UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), and learn about the unique geography, history, culture, customs and cuisine of the Yucatán. Then, learn the best ways to bring all this knowledge back to your classroom!
SAMPLE 9-DAY ITINERARY
Saturday: Arrive to Merida. Orientation and dinner.
Sunday: Bici-ruta tour of “el centro” de Merida. Progreso Beach in the afternoon.
Monday: 4 hours of Spanish class at UNAM. Walking tour of main plaza: cathedral, Casa Montejo, Palacio del Gobierno
Tuesday: 4 hours of Spanish class at UNAM. Market tour/ Food presentation/ cooking class
Wednesday: 4 hours of Spanish class at UNAM. Museo Maya
Thursday: 4 hours of Spanish class at UNAM. Shopping/Horse and Carriage Ride on Paseo de Montejo/Santa Lucía Dinner/ Folkloric dance performance
Friday: Chichén Itzá and visit to Cenotes.
Saturday: Uxmal Ruins; Museo de Chocolate; Hacienda San Pedro Ochil, departure lunch. Evening Presentation: Pok Ta Pok (Mayan Ball Game)
Sunday: Free time and departure.
HOW TO EARN CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS:
California State University Monterey Bay is offering 4.8 CEUs for this event! This credit is optional, and you need to register for it separately.
